“Hey, Can You Look At This?”

The idea for “The Jiu-Jitsu Therapist” and to start working privately with clients started from a question,

"Hey, can you look at this?".

My Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) instructor and coach, “Chewy,” asked me to take a look at his knee after he tweaked it during practice preparing for a martial arts match.

Without hesitation, I wanted to help. I assessed his knee, performing manual diagnostic tests to ensure that the ligaments and tissue felt in-tact.  His knee felt structurally sound and was, at worst, a minor sprain.  When I told him what I thought, I could see my coach's face light up. I was able to use my education, knowledge, and skill set that I obtained from over 8 years experience as an out-patient orthopedic physical therapist to provide him the confidence to continue his training and compete safely.

This was the turning point for me. To develop a practice where I could treat my patients in a one-on-one setting, spend the time needed to provide a complete and thorough assessment, and use my skills to my fullest capabilities to educate and return my patients to optimal function.

I started treating out of my wife's massage therapy room. I would wheel my equipment in for every patient, providing them the quality of care they deserved in order to achieve great results. I eventually opened an office with my wife in louisville called “MBODI.”

I use a unique and individualized approach to treatment and overall functional health using modern techniques and treatment strategies such as one-on-one evaluation, assessment, and interventions of addressing the underlying imbalances in the body to treat your specific condition. Through the use of therapeutic exercises, manual therapy techniques, functional movement assessments, individualized treatment plans, and strength and conditioning principles, I help those individuals become empowered to improve their health, overall wellness, and return to optimal function.
